ANZ Stadium reveals plans for AU$250m upgrade
The ANZ Stadium could be about to get a AU$250m (£152.1m, US$226.4m, 176.5m) upgrade after ambitious new plans were unveiled by Australian sport minister Graham Annesley.
The planned work would see the addition of 10,000sq m (107,600sq ft) in development space, with the addition of a retractable roof and moveable northern and southern grandstands, which would mean the lower bowl could be transformed into a rectangle for rugby, AFL and football games.
It has been estimated that three big games in July - including a football match between Manchester United and an A-League XI - will create up to AU$50m (£30.4m, US$45.2m, €35.3m) in revenue for the New South Wales Economy.
The stadium upgrade also envisages new clubs, bars, restaurants, gym, pool and a rock-climbing wall to be built in the development space.
The new seating arrangement would see a slight reduction in capacity, going from 83,500 to around 80,000.
The stadium operator will now begin talks with key sporting groups including the NRL, AFL, ARU, Cricket Australia and Football Federation Australia in regards to funding the upgrade.
