Cambridge City FC receives green light for stadium plans
Cambridge City Football Club (CCFC) has been given the green light to build a 3,000-capacity community stadium in Sawston, Cambridgeshire.
The club is now free to start construction work following a final approval for the scheme from secretary of state Eric Pickles.
The plans had already been approved by South Cambridgeshire District Council in June, but the final decision had to be made by the government because the ground will be on green belt land.
The project will be overseen by KWA Architects and Planning Consultants, with York-based Sports Ground Design being appointed pitch consultants.
CCFC Chair Kevin Satchell said: "This is fantastic news for everyone involved with the club.
“We can now really move forward and develop something truly special that will not only secure the long term future of the club, but will also provide a first class community facility for the people of Sawston and surrounding area.”
