Join in the Olympic Challenge
Tees Active are challenging the public of Teesside to participate in their 'Your Olympic Challenge' programme.
Each month Tees Active has selected a sport for the public to have a go and discover some of challenges our Olympic athletes will be attempting to overcome this summer or more importantly have some fun and hopefully learn a new sport and become physically more active.
The 5 sports which represent each one of the Olympic rings are badminton. swimming, wrestling, gymnastics and judo.
March saw Badminton as the first targeted sport with a programme of free coached taster sessions for juniors and adults at Thornaby Pavilion, Splash or Billingham Forum and a tournament at Thornaby Pavilion.
Allan McDermott, Tees Active Sports Academy said: "We are hoping to encourage people of all ages to have a go and get into the Olympic spirit.
"Each month we will be promoting an exciting programme of events and sessions for each targeted sport. In conjunction with our targeted sports we will be challenging our Activ8 gym members to train for a timed 2000m indoor rowing challenge later in the year and in May we have organised an It’s a knockout competition and raft races at Tees Barrage International White Water Centre for companies and organisations to feel part of the Olympic Challenge."
