Newham Council has approved plans for the Siemens Pavilion - a new £30m exhibition and conference centre to be built at London's Victoria Docks.
The venue will be developed on land owned by the council and the London Development Agency and will be at located at the centre of a new green enterprise district spanning six London boroughs. International technology firm Siemens is leading the scheme, while Locum Consulting has advised on the visitor forecast and business plan for the 3,690sq m (39,720sq ft), three-storey pavilion.
Locum also worked with a design team comprising Pringle Brandon and Wilkinson Eyre Architects to determine the optimal size for the visitor facilities - expected to attract 100,000 people a year. The Siemens Pavilion will include exhibition space, a 300-seat auditorium and facilities for educational tour groups. There are plans for interactive exhibits, seating areas, a café and a shop, as well as outdoor seating areas and exhibition space.
The centre, which will be located at the western end of the Royal Docks, is expected to attract around 100,000 visitors a year. School groups from across London are also expected to use the facility for educational trips. Andreas J. Goss, chief executive of Siemens UK, said: "Our aim is to create an attractive focal point that celebrates London's ambition and leadership in green technologies and sustainability."
