Bjarke Ingels reveals towering project in South America's greenest capital
Scandinavian architecture bureau Bjarke Ingels Group (BIG) have unveiled plans for EPIQ – the firm's second project in Quito, Ecuador.
Situated on the cusp of the 670,000 sq m La Carolina Park, the 24-storey mixed-use building will comprise a variety of shopping units, offices, and residences.
In an apparent evocation of the Spanish Colonial buildings in Quito's UNESCO-recognised old town, the tower will also feature a rose-coloured facade.
Quito's ecological heritage, meanwhile, (the city has been called South America’s "greenest capital") will be reflected in EPIQ's heavily foliaged gardens and terraces.
Other on-site amenities will include a rooftop pool, spa centre, extensive lounges, a music room, a fitness suite, and a yoga area.
Speaking on the project, BIG – who are collaborating on the design plan with Uribe & Schwarzkopf – said: "While the facade pattern is based on the scale of the individual apartments, the red and pink hues give each volume its own identity.
"Together, these residential blocks form a vertical neighbourhood that exemplifies a new approach to integrating outdoor space into a high-density residential building aimed at fostering a community."
