Council delays Stevenage FC rent increase

By Pete Hayman    14 Jul 2011

Stevenage Borough Council (SBC) has delayed a rent increase on the Lamex Stadium - the home of Stevenage Football Club (SFC) - in order to boost proposals to revamp the venue.

The npower League One club has drawn up plans to redevelop the North Stand at the 7,100-capacity stadium, which is owned by the council and has been the club's home since 1980. SBC said that it had agreed to delay the increase in rent in order to provide £200,000 to help fund SFC's planned upgrade following the club's promotion from npower League Two.

Council leader Sharon Taylor said: "The improvements to the ground are befitting for a League One team, and the council has worked with the club to make them possible."
