Concrete pay homage to 'kaleidoscopic' Bavarian culture with Germany's first Andaz hotel
The Andaz Hotel Munich Tor Schwabinger – Germany's first Andaz-branded hospitality venue – has opened its doors.
Designed by Dutch architecture studio Concrete Architectural Associates to reflect what the group have called the "kaleidoscopic" cultural and artistic diversity of Bavaria, the hotel boasts 234 rooms and 43 suites, as well as a spa, two bars, a pool deck, a gym, and a restaurant.
The Andaz Spa – said to be one of the largest of its kind in Munich – comprises multiple treatment rooms and offers a variety of therapies and amenities, including a sauna, massage services, body rituals, and facials.
The hotel's overall interior layout and decorations feature motifs from the diamond-shaped Bavarian flag. Additionally, its bars and common areas are outfitted with richly coloured furnishings and glossy light fixtures, evoking the region's centuries-old cosmopolitan air.
Local art director Yves Peitzner designed the on-site art installation, which he described as a "hyper-realistic window" into Munich's sky.
"It is a reminder that beyond this planet of ours," Peitzner explained, "there is a limitless space of experiences – unopened and unrevealed."
Speaking on the opening, Mattheos Georgiou, general manager at Andaz Munich Schwabinger Tor, said: "Munich is known as one of the most livable cities in the world, and the hotel will offer guests an immersive experience in the Bavarian capital."
The hotel was developed by the Jost Hurler Group, which has owned the property since the 1960s.
