Edinburgh Leisure launches Young Ambassadors Programme
Sports trust Edinburgh Leisure officially launched a new programme to find and develop young sporting ambassadors at a residential weekend last month.
Eleven young sports enthusiasts from schools throughout Edinburgh, selected by the Edinburgh Leisure Youth Development Team, will champion sport in the city, giving young people a voice in sport, inspiring others to get involved and help to develop new sport and physical activity programmes.
The project, a first in Scotland, will empower young people to inspire their communities and peers to lead a more active and healthy lifestyle.
During the residential weekend, participants not only learned more about what it's going to take to get their communities active but also got to try loads of new outdoor sport and team building games.
"This is an exciting new programme that will give young people real involvement in shaping sport and physical activity for the younger generation throughout Edinburgh," said Shelagh Jackson, youth development officer, who is leading the project.
