Ex-Manchester United Football Club captain Gary Neville has been given the green light for the development of a new mixed-use complex near the club's stadium in Manchester.
AEW Architects are behind the design of the new 10-storey Old Trafford Supporters' Club (OTSC), which is to be located at the junction of Wharfside Way and Sir Matt Busby Way.
The 8,000sq m (86,111sq ft) building will incorporate a 139-bedroom hotel with associated facilities; public space for use by OTSC members and spectators; and a club shop.
Last year, Neville announced his intention to fund the development using proceeds from his testimonial match. During his career, he played 400 times for the Premier League club.
Steve Burne, managing director of AEW Architects, said: "We've worked with Gary Neville on several projects and are delighted the application for the supporters' club has been approved - this is a genuine chance for Gary to give something back to the fans.
"A lot of time was invested in the design stage so that we could be sure the building will provide a true match day experience for the fans. It is a significant project that will attract attention from around the world, and one that draws on AEW's experience in the hotel and leisure sectors."
- Neville was recently announced as a new ambassador for the Football Foundation, one of the UK's largest sports charities which funds the development community facilities.
He said: "This country loves watching and playing football so we desperately need to address our lack of quality sports facilities."
