Germany to host Euro 2024 after beating Turkey in final vote
Germany has beaten Turkey to host the Euro 2024 football tournament, after a vote by UEFA's Executive Committee.
The two countries made final bid presentations before voting took place in Nyon, Switzerland, earlier today (27 September).
In the ballot, the 17 members of the UEFA Executive Committee chose Germany with 12 votes to four. One vote was deemed invalid.
The decision means Germany will stage the European Championship for the second time – and the first as a unified country. The 1988 tournament was held in the then West Germany.
"I would like to thank the UEFA Executive Committee for its trust and confidence," said Reinhard Grindel, president of the German Football Association (DFB).
"I am fully aware of the responsibility and how much this tournament means to UEFA. Tomorrow we will start doing all we can to meet the high expectations you have of us."
