Health and wellbeing at Edinburgh Leisure recognised with NHS-backed Award
Edinburgh Leisure, the not-for-profit trust which manages sport and leisure facilities on behalf of The City of Edinburgh Council, has been recognised for its commitment to health and well-being in the workplace with a major new award.
The independent trust, which manages over 30 facilities across Edinburgh, has achieved The Healthy Working Lives - Silver Award as a result of its commitment to nurturing a healthy and safe working environment for all its staff.
The accolade is assessed and awarded by the NHS-funded Scottish Centre for Healthy Working Lives.
Among the core criteria met by Edinburgh Leisure to achieve this success were the implementation of a policy on alcohol and drugs, statements of intent on healthy eating and physical activity, raising awareness about mental health and well-being, supporting staff attendance and the avoidance of accidents in the workplace.
The Silver award builds on Edinburgh Leisure's Bronze level Healthy Working Lives status which was achieved in July 2008.
John Comiskey, Chief Executive of Edinburgh Leisure said: "Edinburgh Leisure is delighted that our commitment to the health, safety and well-being of our highly valued workforce has been recognised with this major award. As an organisation whose core purpose is to ensure as many people in Edinburgh become active and stay healthy, we are proud to nurture a culture where our staff are true ambassadors for promoting a healthy, happy lifestyle."
