Inverclyde Leisure turns to innovation to revive run-down centre
Inverclyde Leisure has rescued a leisure centre slated for the scrap heap with an innovative strategy to breathe new life into the ageing facility.
Ravenscraig Activity Centre had been commissioned to be closed due to its age and condition, however Inverclyde Leisure devised plans to reinvigorate the facility. Teaming up with Inverclyde Council and Alliance Leisure to raise funding for the £1.4m investment in the site, Inverclyde Leisure introduced its second budget gym, X Height vertical climbing walls, plus an extensive soft play and café area ahead of the re-opening last month.
“The new Ravenscraig Activity centre will further reduce the barriers to exercise and general fun activity by introducing a more affordable fitness option to the area,” said David McCorkindale, head of leisure for Inverclyde Leisure.
"This links closely to our company mission statement of 'Getting people active’. The recent changes to the facility have been largely welcomed by the community as we set out to reach 1,800 new members for our low cost budget gym since opening in February.”
A spokesperson for the operator told Health Club Management that the new Technogym-supplied gym features treadmills, varios, crossovers, upright bikes, group cycles, rowers and the full range of resistance equipment from the Technogym element range.
