New walking trail to celebrate poet's work
A poem written by Dylan Thomas on his 30th birthday has been used to inspire a new walking trail in Laugharne, South Wales, which aims to celebrate the poet's life.
The trail - currently being developed by the Laugharne Corporation - will guide visitors through an area of woodland detailed in A Poem in October and will feature benches and interpretative panels. Carmarthenshire County Council and Menter Bro Dinefwr contributed nearly £13,000 towards the creation of the trail as part of the Rural Development Plan for Wales 2007-2013.
John Wilson, the council's community regeneration manager, said: "The idea for the project has been developed to gain a better understanding of Dylan Thomas' poetry by reading and walking in his footsteps. "It will increase the number of visitors to Laugharne and make the town a birthday destination, providing a great boost to tourism in the area."
