Dacorum Sports Trust taking it to the extreme
Thanks to £5m government funding, a fantastic new extreme sports facility will be built in Hemel Hempstead, Hertfordshire.
The centre's 'extreme' facilities include an indoor skate and BMX park, a climbing centre, high ropes and caving.
Dacorum Sports Trust (DST) will manage the facility and work in partnership with Youth Connexions to also offer a teen health clinic, music recording studio, internet café, chill out zone and counselling rooms.
Building work should begin in Autumn 2010 with an expected opening date of Summer 2011.
The funding for the project has come from the government's 'Myplace' programme which creates safe places for young people to go, and administered by the Big Lottery fund.
DST beat hundreds of other applicants from across the country to win the funding, and hopes that the facility will be a social centre for 11- to 19-year-olds, and that the extreme activities on offer will attract customers from near and far.
