US$48m Prosper Stadium announced for Texas school district
The Prosper Independent School District (IDS) just north of Dallas has unveiled plans for a US$48m (€41.5m, £37m) 12,000 capacity stadium and attached natatorium, set to open in 2019.
According to the project's architect, Huckabee, the stadium will feature split level seating for the home-side; a two-storey press box; press, scouting and community rooms; and restaurant facilities.
The turf is suitable for both competitive American football and soccer, with paved areas providing staging for half-time entertainment.
The 34,000sq ft (3,158 sq m), 500 person capacity natatorium, will be "the first of its kind facility" for the school district, and will allow Prosper athletes to train at school, rather than continue to rely on out-of-district facilities.
With a 16-lane competition pool, a four-lane warmup pool and a two one meter diving boards, the facility will also serve a number of high schools in Northeastern Texas.

The decision to build the ground comes at a time when Prosper IDS is expecting its current student population of 11,000 to rapidly expand, with enrolment predicted to double every five years.
While the new stadium and natatorium are a significant investment, both Huckabee and Prosper ISD have stated that the costs are US$15-20 million less than similar projects in neighbouring districts.
Funding for the stadium build is coming out of the district's 2007 voter-approved bond for US$710 million (€614m, £537m).
Huckabee have a 50 year history in designing schools and stadiums in the state of Texas, with recent projects including the Veron Newsom and Panther stadiums for the Mansfield and Midway ISDs respectively.
