£5.3m leisure village offers new vision for boosting activity
A new £5.3m sports and leisure hub designed to get families moving by offering a range of innovative activities has opened to the public.
The Summit Indoor Adventure in Selby is aimed at all ages and features boutique ten-pin bowling, a VerTGo adventure climbing facility, an adventure play zone, aerial trekking, an indoor ski simulator, plus an indoor skate and BMX park. The centre is linked to the recently-built Selby Leisure Centre via a new glass walkway.
Alliance Leisure has developed the project on behalf of Selby District Council, with lead constructor ISG working to designs from architects Bradshaw Gass and Hope. The site is being operated by Inspiring Healthy Lifestyles – which recently rebranded having previously been known as Wigan Leisure and Culture Trust (WLCT).
Alliance Leisure development lead for the project James Foley said: “The vision for Selby Leisure Village was to create a concept that would enhance leisure locally and regionally by redefining leisure provision in the public sector.
“In adding to the existing leisure mix in Selby, we believe that we have shown that physical activity can be sustainable, exciting and challenge the norm.”
Sarah Watts, Alliance Leisure CEO, added: “Our three-way partnership has created a highly innovative sport and leisure destination for all ages – one that will inspire physical activity and healthy living for generations to come.”
