Leisure centre reopens following boy's death
Hambleton Leisure Centre in Northallerton has reopened to the public amid an ongoing police investigation into the death of an eight year old boy at the facility on 25 August.
North Yorkshire Police and Hambleton District Council (HDC) are continuing to ascertain the cause of the incident, which claimed the life of Kaimen Ward after he got into difficulties while using the centre's swimming pool. In addition to the police investigation, the council has launched a "thorough" internal investigation - including an independent safety review.
HDC chief executive Peter Simpson said: "All our operating procedures were being followed. There were three lifeguards on duty at the time of this incident as well as swimming instructors preparing for lessons - they were all involved and are deeply upset about the outcome."
