The cost of a child's leisure time during the school summer holidays amounts to more than £400, according to research by Abbey National. In its survey of 542 families, most working parents spend an average of £420 per child, excluding holidays away from home, on filling their leisure time during the long school holidays. Fast food, drinks, sports activities and travel costs were the biggest outlay, closely followed by cinema tickets and trips to theme parks.
