Doubts linger over West Ham's future
Fresh doubt has been cast over the future of West Ham United Football Club (WHUFC) after it was revealed that the club's holding company, Hansa, had entered administration.
However, the club's vice-chair, Asgeir Fridgeirsson, told the Daily Telegraph that the latest development would not impact upon the day-to-day running of the east London club. Fridgeirsson told the newspaper: "It is not affecting the operation of West Ham. There is no debt within West Ham from Hansa or vice-versa.
"There is no money going from the club to the owner. It is fire-walled." Bjorgolfur Gudmundsson, WHUFC's owner, has already been affected by financial trouble this year following the collapse of the Icelandic banking sector. Another of his companies – Samson Holdings – has also filed for administration.
Meanwhile, the club has been hit by a compensation claim from Sheffield United relating to a High Court decision which ruled that it had broken Premier League rules by playing Carlos Tevez during the 2006/7 season.
