£35m to fund new charitable sports trust
Proposals to establish a charitable trust to support a diverse range of cultural and sporting initiatives associated with the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games are being sought by the Millennium Commission, the Department for Culture, Media and Sport (DCMS), the Big Lottery Fund and Arts Council England.
The Lottery distributors and the government are offering to make £35m available to fund the trust.
Proposals are sought by the end of May from candidates willing to establish such an organisation, which will deliver a coherent programme of activities at local, regional and national levels between 2006 and 2012.
It is envisaged that the trust will support the 2007–11 UK School Games, with events being held in Northern Ireland and Wales, as well as the north, south and midlands of England.
The funders will select a preferred candidate by the end of June, with a view to establishing the trust in the autumn.
