Construction work for the fifth Center Parcs site, to be built in Warren Wood, near Woburn, Bedfordshire, has been delayed further due to a condition in the planning permission.

The planning permission, approved over a year ago by the Department of Communities and Local Government, was granted on the condition that the bridleways and rights of way were rerouted to land around the holiday village. A spokesperson for Center Parcs said: "We have no idea how long planning permission will take, but we have be advised it could take up to a year. The application, submitted to Mid Beds District Council, is currently under public consultation."

The second planning application is the latest in a number of hold ups to affect the development, which began in 2004 when Centre Parcs announced its plans. The initial planning application was rejected by Mid Beds District Council in July 2006 after it was deemed inappropriate for the south Bedfordshire Green Belt. DCLG overturned the decision in September 2007. When complete, the £200m holiday park will comprise 700 forest villas, a 75-bed hotel and spa and two main centres including indoor sports, a swimming pool, restaurants and retail outlets.

According to Center Parcs, the development will generate significant economic benefit to the local region, including a £2m contribution to improve the infrastructure around the new village including improvements to the A507. The holiday park will also create 1,400 jobs and a new public right of way within the Bedford Estate, with around 500,000 new trees being planted in the area.
