Plans to develop a new community football facility at Lowfield Park, Sheffield, have been given a £350,000 funding boost by the Football Foundation.

The grant will go towards the creation of a new all-weather synthetic pitch with floodlights as part of wider efforts to regenerate the area, which also includes an overhaul of Lowfield School and improved open spaces. A new building - U-Mix - will also accompany the pitch, which will house changing facilities and a range of activities for local young people, including space for dance, performing arts and training opportunities.

Sheffield City Council (SCC) is working alongside Football Unites Against Racism, Sheffield Futures and Lowfield Primary School on the plans, with the project team now awaiting a decision on a £2m government grant. SCC cabinet member for culture, sport and tourism Roger Davison said: "U-Mix is an innovative four-way partnership between Sheffield City Council, Sheffield Futures, Football Unites Racism Divides and Lowfield School and will provide a fantastic facility to engage with and meet the aspirations of young people."
