2010 waterways awards winners announced
Efforts to regenerate Lough Neagh in Northern Ireland - the largest lake in the British Isles - has been unveiled as one of the winners of the 2010 Waterways Renaissance Awards.
Run by The Waterways Trust (TWT) and the British Urban Regeneration Association (BURA), the annual awards recognise a number of schemes designed to transform the UK's inland waterways. In addition to the Lough Neagh Partnership, which won the area-based award, an interpretation project involving the three sustainable 'ways' in the Great Glen, Scotland, picked up the recreation and tourism gong.
Other winners included Railway on the Water - Relaunched, a Yorkshire Waterways museum initiative which was won the heritage category; Liverpool Canal Link in the design and construction category and Action Outdoors, Falkirk, in the education and learning section. Pride in our Promenades, Merseyside (partnership); Middlewich Vision, Cheshire (community); Trinity Broads Restoration, Norfolk (natural environment); Erewash Canal Access Strategy, Nottingham (strategy and masterplanning) and a flood alleviation scheme in Rotherham were also unveiled as award winners.
