4D roller-coaster to swoop into China
Dinosaur Park in Changzhou, China is to see the launch in 2011 of S&S Worldwide's third 4th Dimension roller-coaster.
It will join the 4D rides known as X2: Xtreme to the Second Power at the Six Flags Magic Mountain theme park in Valencia, California, US, and Eejanaika at Fuji-Q Highland, Yamanashi, Japan. Unlike traditional coasters where trains parallel the track, the 4th Dimension sends riders around its 3,600ft (1,097m) circuit on board wing-shaped trains. The seats extend off the track to the sides of the vehicle, allowing the passengers to be independently rotated head over heels and forward and backward.
The trains seat 24 passengers, two abreast in twelve individual cars, six positioned on each side of the train, with a restraint system that adjusts to each rider's size. The ride's 360˚ rotating seats move the passengers independently, creating head-first, face-down drops. The ride's top speed is reported as nearly 80mph (129kph). Changzhou's Dinosaur Park contains dinosaur bones and fossils from all over the country, plus more than 30 amusement rides. The fossils are situated in a museum building, with the rides being spread around the six themed areas of the park.
