Abu Dhabi waterpark reveals pearl diving experience
Yas Waterworld Abu Dhabi is introducing what the attraction labels as a one-of-a-kind pearl diving experience at the waterpark in the United Arab Emirates.
The one-hour experience will see guests over the age of eight given a safety briefing and instructions, before taking part in a five-metre dive to collect three oysters from the bottom of an underwater tank.
Two trained divers will accompany guests when they submerge to collect their quarry, wearing only goggles for visibility as they hold their breath beneath the water.
Having collected the oysters, guests will be taught how to open them, before learning about the treasure revealed inside, which is theirs to take home afterwards.
“Yas Waterworld is themed around The Lost Pearl, an original story about Dana, a young Emirati girl on a quest for the legendary pearl that had once brought prosperity to her village,” said Mike Oswald, park general manager at Yas Waterworld. “The unique Yas Pearl Diving Experience, which isn’t available at any other waterpark, allows us to take this authenticity to the next step by bringing our guests closer to the ancient pearl diving tradition of the UAE by literally immersing them in it.”
Diving attractions are proving more popular of late, with plans recently revealed to sink a new attraction off the Gold Coast of Australia, allowing divers to explore an underwater pyramid structure.
