Anglesey leisure centres to offer futsal
Futsal is set to be rolled out at leisure centres across Anglesey, North Wales, after the local council approved £1,000 of funding towards the initiative.
Isle of Anglesey County Council (IACC) agreed the Community Chest Grant to offer the indoor football game at facilities in Plas Arthur, Amlwch and Holyhead after launching at David Hughes Leisure Centre, Menai Bridge, in late 2009. It is anticipated that futsal will initially run as part of the council's 5 x 60 schemes in conjunction with local secondary schools to encourage young people to get more active before looking to establish adult leagues.
IACC football development officer Gus Williams said: "This is fantastic news that the opportunity to play this sports is stretched to other leisure centres for others across Anglesey to give it a go." Futsal is played on a hard-court service and uses a smaller ball compared with regular football to assist with the development of players' technical skills.
