The Courtauld Institute of Art (CIA) is currently undergoing a reinstallation of its gallery collections in order to replace the current method of display.

As the gallery’s works have been donated by individuals, the new installation will exhibit works by each collector, rather than by a traditional chronological display.

Professor James Cuno, director, said: “Our collection is, in fact, a collection of collections, each with its distinct coherence and identity. By reinstalling the collections by collector, we aim to offer new insights into the history of the individual collections themselves.”

The new format will see seven separate collections on show, including the impressionist and post-impressionist paintings that Samuel Courtauld assembled in the 1920s.

Altogether, the CIA houses 530 paintings, 7,000 drawings, 20,000 prints and a wide collection of sculptures, ranging from medieval to modern times.
