Construction work has begun on a new BMX track in Fearnville Fields in Leeds.

The public track is being built by the Leeds City Council Parks and Countryside and has been designed to Olympic standards so that it will can be used as a training facility by the Olympic BMX team.

The track will consist of a series of humps and curved sections and work is expected to take around two months to complete.

British Cycling is advising on the layout and will assist in forming a local club in the area.

The track at Fearnville is located next to Fearnville Sports Centre, already a multi-recreational site which boasts a skateboard park, multi-use games area, an artificial football pitch and grass root sport pitches.
