Barking and Dagenham 'to benefit from Olympics'
A series of measures has been agreed by the Olympic Board to ensure the London Borough of Barking and Dagenham (LBBD) benefits from the 2012 Games.
The borough will not stage any Olympic or Paralympic events at London 2012, but will be a member on the East London Legacy Board to help shape future planning for the region. LBBD will be given access to Job Brokerage services providing 48 hours notice of jobs on the Olympic site for local residents and a key role in the Cultural Olympiad.
The borough will also have the chance to work with organisers' Ceremonies Team on how the torch relay can be celebrated in the area, while also being made the preferred site to receive the relocatable shooting hall from Woolwich after the Games. Olympics minister Tessa Jowell said: "With the Olympics right on their doorstep it is only right that the people of Barking and Dagenham should be fully included in this opportunity, now and after 2012."
