England 2018 has announced that David Beckham will deliver the country's bid book to FIFA president Sepp Blatter in Zurich, Switzerland, on 14 May.

Beckham will lead England's delegation to FIFA House, which will see the handover of documents setting out the vision and technical details of the bid to host either the 2018 or 2022 tournaments. Lord Triesman, chair of the FA and England 2018 board, said: "It is fantastic news that David's schedule has enabled him to present and head our bid in Zurich.

"It is entirely appropriate that he does so as our bid is about football and the passion for it in our country. Nobody represents that better than David." Earlier this month, Japan withdrew its bid for the 2018 World Cup to concentrate solely on securing the right to stage the 2022 event.

England is expected to go up against Spain/Portugal, Russia, the US, Australia and Belgium/Netherlands for the 2018 event, while South Korea and Qatar are seeking to capture the 2022 tournament.
