Bid submission for Victoria Park revamp
As part of Vision 2025, Newbury Town Council aims to give Victoria Park a complete overhaul costing around £750,000.
The proposals include additional tree planting and new herbaceous borders; improved paths, lighting and security, seating and drainage; the creation of a sculpture garden and a nature conservation area as well as provision of a park warden.
Improved facilities will likely include new play equipment and a skateboard park; better signage and interpretation boards outlining the history of the park; an improved tennis court to accommodate basketball, volleyball and five-a-side football; and enhancement of the historic core, including the bowls club and band stand;
In addition, the existing toilets, kiosk and boat store need to be completely replaced.
The council will submit a bid for a Parks for People grant from the Heritage Lottery Funding in December. If approved, work on site is expected to start in 2010.
