Birmingham’s Imax closes
The 380-seat Imax theatre in Birmingham, one of nine specialist cinemas in the UK, has closed until further notice.
Situated at Millennium Point, the Birmingham Imax opened two years ago and was marketed as one of the UK’s ‘most exciting new visitor attractions’.
It was part of the largest lottery-funded complex outside of London. However, the theatre lost £600,000 in a year and, prior to announcing its closure, was reported to be struggling to attract sizeable audience numbers.
The screen was equal in height to a five storey building and as wide as four buses nose to tail. The special 3D films that were screened were complemented by 42 speakers of digital surround sound.
Anyone who has purchased advanced tickets for the Birmingham Imax has been advised that they can contact the accountants of the operators of the theatre, CineGrand (Birmingham) by email at the following address: [email protected]
