The charitable arm of Blackburn Rovers FC has received planning permission to redevelop and extend a community sports centre at the club’s Ewood Park stadium.

Blackburn Rovers Community Trust (BRCT) has partnered with Frank Whittle Partnership (FWP) architects for the project, which will include the demolition and redesign of the front of the current Blackburn Rovers Indoor Centre.

A new floodlit artificial grass pitch and community sports hall with modern facilities will be included in the redeveloped centre. It will also include new changing rooms and offices, remodelled parking arrangements and landscaped surrounding green space.

“Our aim,” said Gary Robinson, chief executive of BRCT, “is to replace the existing buildings with a modern and inviting centre that offers top sports facilities for people living in the local area.

“The centre will also act as a much-needed focal point for the community and have a real positive impact on the area.”

Seb Salisbury of FWP said the building will include blue and grey bricks with white cladding to represent the club’s colours.

“The design we’re proposing would not only provide striking, modern new facilities for the centre, but also gives local people of all ages a vibrant new community centre to be proud of,” he added.
