Blades submit revised sports centre plans
Sheffield United Football Club has submitted its revised planning application for a multi-use sports facility in Crookes, Sheffield, to the city council.
The new application for the Crookes Development Centre includes increased green space, reduced development, enhanced landscaping and car parking, together with a reduction in floodlight provision and glare control.
A new bowling green, a pedestrian link and external seating areas have also been proposed.
John Stacey, head of property at Sheffield United, said: “We have come a long way from our original plans for the site as a result of the additional feedback we have received from residents.
“It is our intention to provide a year round variety of indoor and outdoor activities which are accessible to all and to improve healthy living and education though sporting opportunities.”
The Blades withdrew their initial application in September following a public meeting with residents and councillors.
Plans for the facility include a grassed sports area, an artificial pitch, an outdoor multi-use games area, an indoor fitness suite and an outdoor walk track.
The club hopes to start work on the development in February next year, if permission is granted.
