Brentford wins Community Club of the year award
Brentford Football Club has won the Community Club of the Year award at the inaugural Football League Awards.
The club beat off competition from clubs including Burnley, Colchester Utd, Norwich City and Millwall to win the award.
Brentford has been running a community scheme for 19 years, which was officially relaunched as the Brentford FC Community Sports Trust (BCST) in February.
The trust’s chief executive, Lee Doyle said: “It’s fantastic to get the recognition that this award represents. We started with one member of staff 19 years ago, but soon will have 20 full time and 50 part time.
“We reach more than 30,000 young people a year, using a variety of sports including kayaking, cricket and boxercise.
“I’d also like to highlight the cutting edge work carried out in the Griffin Park Learning Zone, linking education with sport to inspire young people to raise academic achievements.”
