Brinkworth installs floating skate bowl in San Francisco store
Retail designers Brinkworth have designed a new store in San Francisco for fashion brand Supreme, with a floating skate bowl that reflects the brand's skate culture roots.
The store itself covers 2,800sq ft (260sq m) and was renovated having been in a state of dilapidation.
The design for the space is sparse, with exposed brick and exposed steel framework throughout, while a large glazed frontage allows passersby to see inside.
A double-height ceiling allowed space for a mezzanine to be constructed, from which the bowl is suspended.
The mezzanine and bowl are constructed from timber, with a textured lacquer applied to the bowl.
The installation is fixed to the interior walls and its exposed exoskeleton mirrors the exposed steelwork of the building's interior.
Adam Brinkworth, CEO of Brinkworth, said: "We designed the skate bowl in the Supreme San Francisco store to create a heightened volume when it’s ridden so that – although the shopper can’t see the skater – the sound resonates powerfully. The bowl is almost like an analogue acoustic instrument."
Additional design elements were provided by Wilson Brothers.
