Bristol Old Vic is to open its newly-revamped Georgian auditorium in September, following the first phase of an extensive £19m redevelopment being undertaken at the historic venue.
The restoration of the Grade I-listed theatre has been designed by Andrzej Blonski Architects, with the auditorium upgrade including new seating and improved sightlines for spectators.
Charcoalblue has worked on the new technical systems, which includes a refurbishment of the scenery flying system; the replacement of the stage grid; and new lighting.
In addition to the redevelopment of Bristol Old Vic's auditorium, the first stage of work has included the conversion of the paintshop and sidestage into new performance spaces.
The next stage of work - transforming of the foyers and studio spaces - is to start in 2014. The entire project will be completed in 2016 to coincide with theatre's 250th anniversary.
A spokesperson for Bristol Old Vic said: "When the redevelopment is completed, we will be able to produce more theatre in more spaces, have a welcoming and open foyer and café space and an outreach programme that is embedded in our building."
