Broadcaster announces capital’s sporting winners
BBC London has announced the winners of its annual sports awards.
The BBC London Sports Awards recognise personalities and teams in 15 different categories.
This year’s winners included world champion canoeist Anna Hemmings, who was awarded the Sports Personality Award for the second year running.
The award for outstanding contribution to sport in the capital went to Dave Bedford, race director of the London Marathon while Frankie Dettori was awarded with the best sporting moment gong for his emotional Epsom Derby win earlier this year.
John Palmer, Lewisham District cricket coach, was given the BBC London Unsung Sporting Hero Award for his work developing youth cricket in the region as well as his work for the Capital Kids Schools Cricket project.
As winner of the category, Palmer will now go and represent London at the BBC’s Sports Personality of the Year award ceremony, where the UK's unsung sports hero will be announced from a group of regional winners.
Now in their fifth year, the awards recognise sporting excellence in the capital.
