Camden sports centre gets public consultation
Residents in Camden are soon to get the opportunity to put forward their views on a council-endorsed proposal for the redevelopment of the Kentish Town Sports Centre.
Following an initial study of three potential plans, Camden Council Executive is to put forward a proposal for public consultation entailing the complete interior remodelling of the Grade II-listed Victorian building.
Currently the centre features two 33-yard swimming pools – one would be removed and the remaining pool would turned into a 25m facility, with learner pool.
The suggested design includes the construction of 26 new flats – half of which would be affordable housing – in the building and on an adjacent site, to part subsidise the £17m scheme.
A decision on the venture, which includes building a new fitness suite, changing rooms, exercise studios and wet area is expected early in 2006. Details: www.camden.gov.uk
