Carnegie Leisure Centre closes for repairs
Dunfermline leisure facility, Carnegie Leisure Centre, is having to be closed for maintenance work just a year after it reopened following a £17m upgrade.
The main and children’s swimming pools and health suite are having 'essential improvement works' and corrections to end-of-year defects carried out by the building contractor, Barr Construction. This includes minor repairs, which were not undertaken previously because of “unforeseen difficulties” - according to a statement by the centre's operator Fife Sports and Leisure Trust.
The centre boasts a 25m, six lane, deck level swimming pool, a health suite with steamroom, sauna and spa bath, an 80 station gym, three aerobic studios and a new timber sprung floor.
However, the project ran 12 months late and went £2m over budget, as a result of a dispute with Barr and the discovery of dry and wet rot in the building.
