Casino Advisory Panel unveils 27 councils bidding for supercasino
The Casino Advisory Panel today announced that 27 local authorities have submitted proposals to be considered as the potential location for the UK’s first supercasino.
Experts had predicted the number could be as high as 40.
A further 41 local authorities have submitted plans for small and large casinos – eight of each are set to be permitted under the new gaming regulations.
The chair of the Advisory Panel said the selection process would take some time.
“These proposals represent a lot of hard work by the people that have prepared them, and, very often, a lot of difficult decision making also,” said Professor Stephen Crow.
“Over the next few weeks all the proposals – and the evidence supporting them - will be considered very carefully to see how well they measure up. We expect that this process will last at least six to eight weeks.
“Once we have completed this initial phase of evaluation, selected proposals will then go forward for further examination over the summer months.”
