Celtic Crusaders Rugby League Football Club (CCRLFC) has announced that it is poised to secure a deal with Newport Gwent Dragons rugby union team to use the Rodney Parade stadium from 2010.

The Bridgend-based club was one of five clubs recently warned by the Rugby Football League (RFL) that it will be ejected from the Super League in 2012 if it fails to sufficiently advance plans to provide new or improved stadium facilities by 2011. CCRLFC was already scheduled to play its first ever match at the Newport venue on 22 August against Leeds Rhinos as part of its "on the road" initiative, although it is now likely that the match will be the club's first game in a new home.

Mike Turner, the club's chief executive, said that the move was only a temporary one while a new stadium is developed at one of two proposed sites in Bridgend in order to fulfil Super League licence criteria. Turner said: "We're negotiating with Newport Gwent Dragons at the moment. Hopefully within the next 10 days we'll have a contract signed and we'll be moving to Newport."

"There's been a lot of work done in the last 12 months. Hopefully a 14-15,000 capacity stadium will reach fruition for the 2012 season."
