Celtic considers taking Euroleague blocking to the EC
Celtic Football Club is considering lodging a complaint to the European Commission over the blocking by UEFA, European football's governing body, of plans for a continental league.
The proposal for a Euroleague was backed by teams such as Celtic who play in national leagues which do not encourage the same level of sponsorship as the bigger leagues in England, Germany and Italy.
Despite achieving great success on the field, Celtic's media rights sold for only £2.5m - a fraction of even an average club in the English premier division.
The plan to appeal to the EC comes on the back of UEFA's further decision that Celtic and neighbours Glasgow Rangers should not attempt to withdraw from the Scottish league in an attempt to join the English Premiership.
UEFA communications director Mike Lee warned Celtic to follow procedure: This is not something that can be simply brought forward by an individual club.
