Chinese tennis centre to be built by UK firm
An international competition to design a tennis centre in Guangzhou, in southern China has been won by a British firm.
BDP – an advisor on the Beijing Olympic tennis centre – beat off competition from Japan and Australia to win the Y74m (£5.2m, e7.7m) contract.
The complex features seven competition courts, including a centre court with a 7,000-seat capacity as well as additional temporary seating provision, number one court with a 2,000-seat capacity and number two court with 1,500 seats.
BDP will work in partnership with a local design institute on the detailed design, and is to start on site in May, ahead of an intended completion at the end of October.
The facility would be eligible for hosting ATP tour events. Details: www.bdp.co.uk
