Loughborough Sporting Club, which aims to provide a social-networking club for members interested in sport at Loughborough University - has been launched by Sebastian Coe.

Coe unveiled the venture at the House of Lords, which is the result of a partnership between the university's development and alumni relations office and its sports development centre. An annual programme of events and activities to boost participation and support for sport at Loughborough, together with a number of 'Friends of' groups are proposed.

Coe, who has agreed to be president of the club, said: "I am sure that the club will be a huge success, pulling together all the great sportspeople and supporters of Loughborough Sport under one truly exciting and vibrant organisation."
