Communities across Wales receive £1.5m injection for sport
Sport Wales has announced a £1.5m injection of National Lottery funding into communities across Wales in some of the most deprived areas in an attempt to increase the opportunity for people to lead a more active and healthy lifestyle.
Children living in areas of poverty, those living with disabilities and those in areas identified as having low areas of income, will be among those to benefit from the new funding, which will come via the Sports Wales Calls for Action programme.
Adele Baumgardt, board member for Sports Wales said: "The challenge to ensure we continue to develop, creating a lasting legacy in community sport, is in overcoming some long term and untouched barriers that will allow us to turn hundreds of participants into thousands, reaching out to groups not currently participating and making the reality of having every child hooked on sport for life more achievable."
It's also anticipated that the programme will also offer the creation of jobs and increased tourism opportunities.
