A Punch Taverns licensee in Redruth, Cornwall, has painted the exterior of her pub, the Rose Cottage, in full England colours ready for Euro 2004.

The pub now sports a huge St George Cross and reproduction of the three lions emblem in a bid to make the pub the place to watch football this summer.

Jenny McCabe, who runs the pub, said: “There is so much competition that licensees have to find ways of making their outlet stand out.

“It is increasingly difficult to lure customers away from a can of beer in front of the television at home, but if you use your imagination there are ways and means, which can be great fun to do.”

Assistant manager, Daniel Perkins, said the stunt was already paying off, with customer numbers increasing thanks to media coverage and local interest.
