Council backs Leeds leisure centre plans

By Pete Hayman    09 Nov 2011

Leeds City Council's (LCC) executive board has approved plans to carry out improvements at Middleton Leisure Centre, which will include the removal of a disused swimming pool.

Councillors have agreed to provide around £738,000 worth of funding for the project, which could grow to more than £880,000 if a bid to Sport England for further support is approved.

Along with the removal of the disused swimming pool and upgrade of the existing pool site, it is proposed that changing rooms will be improved and expanded for outdoor sports users.

A new 3G artificial playing surface and multi-use games area will be installed, while the bar area will be revamped to provide a community room under the proposals.
