Council backs findings of leisure review
North West Leicestershire District Council (NWLDC) has backed the results of a review of its leisure provision, which called for facilities to operate on a more commercial footing.
The report is designed to ensure that leisure centres are able to cover costs without requiring an additional subsidy form the local authority, while changing how services are marketed.
Initial plans approved by the council's cabinet will see more than £150,000 worth of savings achieved in the current financial year, with the potential for more savings in future.
NWLDC deputy leader Alison Smith said: "By taking a more business-like approach to the operation of our leisure facilities that we will be able to reduce the overall subsidy from the rest of the district and make sure the facilities pay for themselves."
