Council to examine Horsham leisure study
Members of Horsham District Council's (HDC) cabinet are to discuss the new Leisure Futures Study on 24 November, which examines the future of local leisure provision.
The research assessed the quality and type of provision across the district, while taking into account the projected population growth in order to help the council meet future demand.
According to the study, the only shortfalls are in allotments and indoor tennis provision. It was also found that there is "over supply" of some facilities.
Among the Leisure Futures Study's conclusions is that Broadbridge Heath Leisure Centre is now surplus to demand, while also facing an urgent repair bill of at least £1.3m.
HDC cabinet member for arts, heritage and leisure Jonathan Chowen said: "If the decision is made to close the venue, I am personally committed to working with the existing key users of the leisure centre with regard to finding alternative provision for their activities."
